Giroud joining MLS won't affect his participation in the European Championship

Giroud joining MLS won't affect his participation in the European Championship

With just a month and a half to go until the start of the European Championship, France's national team coach Deschamps talked about Olivier Giroud's move this summer from AC Milan to LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.

"Giroud has made a sporting and life choice. Despite his age and the many experiences he has had, he still has a fire burning inside him. Besides reuniting with Lloris and his family, this may also be an opportunity. He wants to continue his professional career, but at the same time, he wants to experience a slightly lower level of competition compared to Europe. This doesn't change my current choices because he will still be with AC Milan until the end of the season," Deschamps said.

Furthermore, Deschamps revealed that he wouldn't rule out calling up Barcola for this summer's European Championship, even though the Paris Saint-Germain winger has never been selected for the French senior national team before.

"Barcola? I won't give up such an opportunity just because I'm not used to calling up newcomers before major tournaments. I don't follow that rule; I'm not conservative, and I don't consider what others might think when making choices. Barcola has been performing well since March, but it's not the first time we've noticed him. My assistant and I have been closely monitoring him since his early days at Lyon," Deschamps added.
